    Description

    Vintage Kachina by Ron Duwyenie
This large, 15", impressive Broadface Kachina is called Wuyak-Kuita. It was hand carved and painted from one piece of cottonwood root by the Hopi master carver, the late Ron Duwyenie.  His work is very intricate in detail from  the lines in each feather to the joints in each finger. His work is exhibited at the Heard Museum in Phoenix as well as many museums and galleries in the southwest.
I purchased this Kachina for 00 in 2001, and since he passed away a few years ago, his work will be hard to find.
The Wuyak-Kuita (Broad Face) is one of the angry Kachinas that perform guard duties in several Hopi ceremonial dances.  He carries Yucca whips and moves in a menacing manner to scare the clowns during the Palalokong ceremony.  The Kachinas are an important part of the Hopi religion.
This large Kachina is in mint condition with no repairs or cracks.  It has vibrant colors and was always displayed behind glass.  Shipping will be calculated with insurance added.
