It is a type of harmful witch who has the ability to turn into, possess, or disguise themselves as an animal. The legend of the skin-walkers is not well understood outside of Navajo culture, mostly due to reluctance to discuss the subject with outsiders.
Navajo people are reluctant to reveal skin-walker lore to non-Navajos, or to discuss it at all among those they do not trust.
This RARE Skinwalker Kachina is 21 inches tall and is depicted holding a bow in one hand and rattle in the other. His body is painted brown with indian symbols and war paint. He is wearing a turquoise necklace. The wolf atops his head and his body is covered in rabbit fur. This figure is carved from wood and is hand painted. Overall dimensions: 21" tall, 7" wide and 6" deep.
The bottom of the piece is signed by Navajo artisan Steve Mitchell of New Mexico.This is a new item and has been stored in a smoke-free studio. It ships in a box from New Mexico.
