The American Platinum Eagle was first issued by the US Mint in 1997. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series in 2007, the Mint offered a special 2 coin set. It included a 1/2 oz. Proof Platinum Eagle and a 1/2 oz. Reverse Proof Platinum Eagle. This 2007-W Reverse Proof Platinum Eagle is from one of those sets. There were 19,583 sets sold. This coin is made of .9995 fine platinum.
2007 Proof Platinum Eagle Design
The obverse of all coins in this series show a design from John Mercanti depicting the Statue of Liberty. The reverse proof finish makes some of the fine details jump out that normally aren't so obvious.
The reverse shares the same design found on other 2007 proof Platinum Eagles. This side shows a bald eagle behind a shield. The eagle is very detailed. The Mint mark, as well as the weight and purity inscriptions, can be found on this side.

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) was chosen to grade this reverse proof Platinum Eagle. The experts there use a grading scale with a maximum of 70. This coin received the grade of Proof 69, which means it's almost perfect.
